These are early images that were made when I started to become interested in photographing public pay phones. In the near future, these machines will be gone by the wayside. Almost all of my first subjects are gone. While some of the locations have completely changed, some just have isolated elements such as the blue posts remaining. Today, almost everyone has a cell phone complete with a still camera and video. Not only this, but technology that utilizes global positioning software that knows your location. The idea of using an electronic, mechanical device to have a private conversation in a public place is interesting...
